The stone for the body of this pendant came to me on a kayak trip down one of our great rivers here in Northern California. I had been away for 6 weeks and was greatly looking forward to getting back. Coming across this piece of jade was a delight, as it had a wonderful color and was free from fractures. I knew I wanted to save it for a special project. Similarly, the grossular garnet for the flower was found snorkeling another one of our rivers, found in the roughs and swift current just before an incredibly deep hole of 80 feet, beyond the depths I could dive for it. Working with this stone, I will always remember the finesse it took to ride the current from upstream, successfully hook onto the stone (50 lb or so), and use it to hold me down enough to move it to the bank. At one point it came out of my hands and was teetering on the edge of falling down into the hole, but at the last moment, I was able to grab it and bring it back. 

For the design of this piece, I wanted to make a peyote button, honoring the part that plant medicine has had on my journey. These teachers bring into clear focus what nature is always telling us - we are all one. Everything is connected.
